A new poll indicates that Mateusz Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” movement could secure parliamentary seats, potentially shifting Poland’s political landscape.
Civic Coalition Leads, PiS Second
The latest United Surveys by IBRiS poll, commissioned by Wirtualna Polska, shows the Civic Coalition leading with 32.1% of the vote. Law and Justice (PiS) follows with 20.3%, and Konfederacja rounds out the podium with 13.2% support.
Morawiecki’s Movement Above Electoral Threshold
Konfederacja Korony Polskiej (8.5%), Lewica (7.9%), and Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus are also projected to enter the Sejm. Rozwój Plus received 5.1% of the vote, exceeding the electoral threshold, which could translate to around a dozen seats if Morawiecki ran independently.
Parties Below Threshold, Undecided Voters
Partia Razem (3.2%), PSL (3.1%), and Polska 2050 (0.5%) failed to surpass the threshold. 6.2% of respondents remain undecided. The survey was conducted between April 17-19 using CATI and CAWI methods with a sample of 1000 adult Poles.
Rozwój Plus: A Test of Support
The 5.1% result is significant as Rozwój Plus is formally an association, but was treated as a potential political party in the poll. This represents the first test of support for the group surrounding Mateusz Morawiecki since its launch.
Tensions Within PiS Over New Movement
The creation of Rozwój Plus has caused tension within PiS. Party spokesman Rafał Bochenek previously stated that activity within the association is incompatible with the party’s statutes, but also announced a “compromise offer” and the creation of an expert council to include politicians linked to Morawiecki’s project. He emphasized a “willingness to cooperate” within the party.
Kaczyński and Morawiecki Reach Agreement
A meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday resulted in what was described as “an agreement and a common direction” by PiS MEP Adam Bielan.
Morawiecki Denies Split, Pledges Support for PiS
Morawiecki publicly dismissed claims of a split and previously assured he is ready to fight for PiS’s victory in future elections, dispelling speculation about leaving the party. The association is intended to be part of the party’s program council.
