New EU law allows users to challenge social media moderation decisions through out-of-court dispute resolution bodies.
New EU Right for Dispute Resolution
Article 21 of the Digital Services Act (DSA) gives users throughout the European Union a new right – out-of-court dispute resolution.
Content Moderation Disputes
This refers to disputes with social media platforms regarding content moderation. Users can object to the removal of their publications by social media platforms.
Platform Inaction
If a platform does not remove reported content that, in the users’ assessment, violates platform rules, they can report to a dispute resolution body.
Court Alternative
This creates new possibilities. It is no longer necessary to take a case to court, which usually costs a lot and takes a long time.
