A five-year-old girl is in critical condition after falling from an 11th-story window in Włocławek last Friday, leading prosecutors to charge her mother with negligence and causing bodily harm.
Investigation into the Incident
The incident occurred on Friday morning, June 5, at a residential complex in the Południe district of Włocławek. Investigations indicate that five-year-old Zosia was in the apartment with her mother, who was asleep at the time.
Breathalyzer tests revealed the mother had approximately one promille of alcohol in her system, with subsequent tests showing an increase in concentration. Preliminary findings also suggest the woman may have been under the influence of drugs, with initial tests indicating the presence of narcotics, likely marijuana.
Legal Charges Against the Mother
Małgorzata Kręcicka, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Włocławek, stated that Wiktoria D. faces charges of exposing a person to direct danger of loss of life or grievous bodily harm, as well as unintentional causation of bodily harm. She faces up to five years in prison.
Wiktoria D. has confessed to the charges and provided a detailed statement. The prosecutor has requested that the court remand the suspect in custody for three months.
Condition of the Victim
Following the fall, the child was airlifted by the Medical Air Rescue to the Dr. Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz. She was treated for multiple organ injuries and is currently in the pediatric intensive care unit.
Hospital spokesperson Marta Laska confirmed that the girl’s condition remains very serious but stable. Doctors have provided a very cautious prognosis regarding her recovery.
