Motorcyclist Speeds at 159 km/h, Loses License Under New Polish Laws

A 26-year-old Polish rider lost his license for three months after being caught exceeding the speed limit by 69 km/h under new traffic regulations.

New Traffic Laws Implemented

On March 3, 2026, Poland introduced new traffic regulations imposing strict penalties for speeding. The laws mandate a three-month license suspension for driving at speeds exceeding the limit by more than 50 km/h, even outside built-up areas on single-carriageway roads.

Speeding Incident

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was stopped by officers from the Płock SPEED group. The rider was detected traveling at 159 km/h on national road 10 near Drobin, where the speed limit outside built-up areas is 90 km/h. The motorcyclist, a resident of the Płock county, explained he wanted to “burn in” his motorcycle after winter.

Penalties Imposed

For exceeding the speed limit by 69 km/h, the rider faced penalties under the new regulations. He lost his driving license for three months and was fined 2000 złoty, along with receiving 14 penalty points. Police emphasized they will not offer leniency to drivers who blatantly violate traffic rules and endanger others.

Police Statement

Police authorities stated they will not apply any discounts or leniency toward drivers who significantly violate regulations and pose a threat to the safety of other road users. The new penalties are part of stricter enforcement measures to improve road safety across Poland.
