Residents pay respects to a six-year-old boy who died in a traffic accident in Warsaw’s Praga-Południe district.
Touching Tribute at Accident Site
At the corner of Zamieniecka and Grochowska streets in Warsaw’s Praga-Południe district, candles and stuffed toys are being brought by people affected by the accident in which a six-year-old boy died. “This is terrible. An innocent boy lost his life. I didn’t know this family, but I’m simply sorry. I’m sorry, I can’t hold back my tears,” said a man with a candle in an interview with Wirtualna Polska.
People who live or work in the vicinity are coming to the accident site. A vendor in the area informed WP journalists that on Tuesday morning, a delegation from the preschool the boy attended brought a framed black-and-white photograph of him. There were also reports that the six-year-old crossed the intersection every day on his way to preschool and later on his way home.
Deadly Crash in Warsaw
The incident occurred on Monday, January 19 at around 3:00 PM at the intersection of Zamieniecka and Grochowska streets in Warsaw. It was preliminarily determined that a 28-year-old Ford driver, while making a left turn, failed to yield to a Toyota traveling on Grochowska Street. This resulted in a collision that knocked the Toyota out of its lane. The car hit a group of people waiting at a pedestrian crossing. Four people were injured, including the six-year-old who did not survive the accident. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were sober.
Charges Filed After Accident
On Tuesday, the Warsaw Praga-Południe District Prosecutor’s Office issued a decision to press charges against both drivers. The charges relate to causing an accident that resulted in the death of a child and bodily injuries to three other persons lasting for more than seven days. “The prosecutor determined that the behavior of each of these persons was inconsistent with traffic rules and safety, and both contributed to this accident,” said Prosecutor Karolina Staros from the Warsaw-Praga Regional Prosecutor’s Office in an interview with Gazeta.pl.
