Polish MP Klaudia Jachira was suspended by her party’s parliamentary club after revealing attempts to restrict the 800-plus benefit to working families, sparking debate across government.
MP Klaudia Jachira Suspended by KO
Polish MP Klaudia Jachira announced that she had been suspended by the KO parliamentary club following her disclosure of proposed amendments to a bill aiding Ukrainians. The amendments, introduced three weeks earlier, would have limited the 800-plus benefit to families in which at least one parent was employed. The changes failed to secure passage in the Sejm, prompting the MP to claim her suspension was a reaction to her public statements.
She added that, despite the controversy, discussions on the benefit were initiated and reached government officials. In a metaphorical comparison, Jachira described the amendments as a “drop that drills the stone,” suggesting they could end meaningless “popisowe” distribution and redirect public funds to the most needy or to systemic solutions.
Ministry Not Conducting Any Work
A report from Forsal.pl, citing government sources, indicated that there had been plans to restrict the 800-plus family benefit exclusively to working parents who paid taxes. The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy denied these claims, stating that it was not carrying out any work to modify the eligibility rules for the benefit.
The ministry reiterated that the “Rodzina 800+” benefit remains universal, available to all families raising children regardless of their economic status or employment situation, and is a cornerstone of Polish family policy.
