Elon Musk did not appear for questioning in Paris regarding alleged violations by platform X, according to French prosecutors on Monday.

Musk Defies French Summons

Billionaire Elon Musk failed to appear for questioning at the Paris prosecutor’s office on Monday, related to alleged violations by the platform X, according to the AFP news agency citing the prosecutor’s office.

The weekly “Le Canard enchaine” previously reported Musk’s absence.

Investigation Proceeds Despite No-Show

The prosecutor’s office stated it “takes note of the absence of the first summoned individuals,” without naming Musk. It emphasized that this absence “does not hinder the continuation of the investigation.”

Investigation Focuses on Algorithmic Abuse and Data Acquisition

The investigation concerning platform X centers on allegations of algorithmic abuse and illegal data acquisition by X or its leaders. Musk and X CEO Linda Yaccarino were summoned for questioning as individuals who were, at the time of the investigated events, the factual and legal managers of X.

Musk has labeled the summons a “political attack.”

Witnesses Summoned in April

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced in February that X employees were also summoned for questioning as witnesses between April 20-24.

Search of X Office and Expansion to Grok

In February 2026, a search was conducted at X’s French office. The prosecutor’s office then announced it was expanding the investigation in connection with complaints regarding the operation of Grok, the AI-powered chatbot created by Musk’s company.

The prosecutor’s office stated it would investigate the alleged involvement in storing and disseminating child pornography images and violating personal image rights through the creation of so-called deepfakes with sexual content.

Broader Investigation of Tech Giants

This is another investigation conducted by the Paris prosecutor’s office concerning internet giants. Previously, the prosecutor’s office launched investigations into the operation of the Telegram messenger, the Kick streaming platform, the TikTok application, and the Chinese X trading platform.
