On Tuesday, November 4, Warsaw residents were startled by unexplained lights illuminating the city’s northeast, later identified as military flares.
Sudden Lights Over Warsaw
Municipal Reporter announced that on Tuesday, November 4, mysterious light points appeared over the northeast part of Warsaw. Remiza.pl reported that similar sightings were coming from many regions of the country. The incident prompted concern among some residents, who began to wonder what had caused the phenomenon. Close‑up photographs showed scorch marks trailing behind the lights. “It is the result of a burning charge being released onto a small parachute,” the reporter explained.
Military Flares Identified
Investigators determined that the flashes in Warsaw were produced by military flares used at a training range near Wesoła and Zielonka. Such flares are employed to illuminate large areas for brief periods, facilitating observation and coordination. Although their usage has declined, flares can still be observed when deployed. Modern systems such as infrared lighting and thermography are gradually replacing them, according to the reporter.
Historical Context and Flare Mechanics
The most recent occurrence of this phenomenon took place in November 2024. At that time, the portal contacted an officer who suggested that the lights could have been caused by a parachute cluster. He also noted that the flare might be released at an altitude of roughly 300 metres.
