Police investigate balloon with Cyrillic script discovered in Poland, involving specialized security agencies.
Mysterious Object in Warmińsko-mazurskie
In the village of Pieczarki in Węgorzewo County, Warmińsko-mazurskie Voivodeship, an unusual object was discovered on Wednesday. RMF FM reporter confirmed it was a balloon with Cyrillic script written on it. Police cordoned off the area and called appropriate services.
The balloon was transported to the Criminal Laboratory of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Olsztyn for further examination.

A technician from the Olsztyn laboratory, cited by the broadcaster, stated that the object is likely a weather radiosonde equipped with GPS tracking capabilities. The device can reach altitudes of up to 30 kilometers.
The prosecutor’s office and the Internal Security Agency are investigating the balloon’s discovery and determining its origin. These institutions will conduct a detailed examination of the find.
Services Action in Lubelskie Village
Services regularly report finding drone debris, weather balloons, or similar devices. In mid-December, Lubelskie Voivodeship police announced actions in Radzyń County after a man discovered parts of an object resembling a drone during a forest walk in Żelizna.
Police from Radzyń Podlaski County Police Station notified the Military Gendarmerie in Biała Podlaska and the prosecutor’s office about the discovery.
Military Gendarmerie Drone Operations
The largest operation related to securing and searching for drones was conducted by the Military Gendarmerie after 19 Russian drones entered Poland during the night from September 9 to 10, 2025. The operation involved 200 soldiers and over 50 Military Gendarmerie vehicles.
The Operational Command of the Armed Forces warned that these elements may pose a threat to health and life, advising people not to approach or move them.
