An MZA traffic control vehicle traveling as an emergency unit collided with a Chevrolet Corvette at the intersection of Żwirki i Wigury and Woronicza streets while responding to a separate accident.
Collision During Emergency Response
The incident occurred as an MZA traffic control instructor was responding to an earlier accident involving a Mini and a Toyota on Jana Pawła Woronicza street. The instructor was tasked with assisting in traffic management and clearing buses from the area.
The instructor’s electric KIA, operating as an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens activated, was navigating the intersection of Żwirki i Wigury and Woronicza when the collision occurred.
Conflicting Accounts of the Crash
According to the KIA driver and a pedestrian witness, the emergency vehicle slowed and stopped before entering the intersection, and traffic in two lanes halted to allow the vehicle to pass. The driver was turning left against a red light when the collision happened.
The driver of the Chevrolet Corvette stated that he was traveling in the right lane with a green light and that his view was potentially obstructed by the vehicle’s low profile. He claimed the emergency vehicle failed to slow down, contradicting the reports provided by the MZA driver and the witness.
Police Investigation Underway
Police were summoned to the scene to document the event and collect statements from the participants and witnesses. The exact sequence of events is currently under investigation to determine legal liability for the accident.
