NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte confirms member states can down Russian planes and drones if necessary.
Rutte’s Interview with Fox News
On September 25, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte told Fox News that NATO member states have the right to shoot down Russian aircraft and drones violating their airspace.
“Yes, if necessary. I fully agree with President Trump on this issue,” Rutte stated.
NATO Preparedness for Threats
Rutte emphasized that NATO forces are well-equipped to assess threats and take appropriate action, including escorting Russian aircraft out of NATO airspace or further measures if required.
Trump’s Comments on Shooting Down Russian Planes
During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York on September 23, Donald Trump addressed the issue of responding to Russian actions.
When asked if NATO should shoot down Russian aircraft violating their airspace, Trump replied, “Yes.” Regarding U.S. support, he noted it would depend on the circumstances.
