Tomasz Siemoniak declared on X that he would grant 136 denied officers financial bonuses as a political counter‑measure, sparking tension between the president and the government.
Siemoniak’s X Post
On 1 December, Tomasz Siemoniak posted on X that he would award the officers—who had been denied promotion by Karol Nawrocki—financial bonuses equivalent to those of officers.
He added that “the service for the Republic of Poland in times of threats and diversion deserves the highest respect.”
Nawrocki’s 136‑Person Block
Early in November, Donald Tusk announced that Karol Nawrocki had blocked promotions for 136 personnel from the Military Counterintelligence Service and the Internal Security Agency.
These officers were slated for the first officer rank; Nawrocki’s refusal has escalated a dispute between the president and the government.
Prime Minister’s Accusations
The prime minister described the blockage as “the next stage of the conflict between the president and the government,” calling it “sabotage aimed at state security.”
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz pledged that he would “to the end” request the president to sign the nominations and decorations.
President’s Condition for Signing
Karol Nawrocki stated that he would not sign the officer promotions or honors until the heads of the security services met at the Presidential Palace.
His spokesperson, Rafał Leśkiewicz, reported that the president wants to discuss the real threat level and its impact on national security, noting that information publicly released by the prime minister contradicts that provided by the service heads.
