Nawrocki Defends Andruszkiewicz Over Signature Forgery Allegations

President Karol Nawrocki defends Adam Andruszkiewicz amid a 12-year investigation into alleged signature forgery in Polish regional elections.

Nawrocki Defends Andruszkiewicz

On Thursday, 5 February, President Karol Nawrocki commented on the case of his deputy chief of staff, Adam Andruszkiewicz. “Twelve years of investigation without evidence, clear graphologist opinions indicating no connection to Adam Andruszkiewicz – a blinding revelation. The prosecution acts slowly and selectively, yet always coincidentally in line with the ‘leader’s’ expectations. It attacks a man who has consistently worked for Poland regardless of political climate. Thank you, Minister Andruszkiewicz, for your service to Poland,” wrote the president. The PiS deputy responded to Nawrocki: “Thank you for your support, Mr. President! Despite lying, political attacks, we work for Poland. Those destroying our rule of law must be aware that time will pass quickly. To victory,” wrote Andruszkiewicz.

Andruszkiewicz Summoned for Questioning

Recall that on Wednesday, Andruszkiewicz announced he had been summoned to the prosecutor’s office regarding a case involving forged signatures on candidate support lists for the All-Polish Youth, who ran on the National Movement Civic Committee list in the 2014 Podlasie regional assembly elections. Andruszkiewicz then headed the All-Polish Youth in Podlaskie. “After many years of intensive prosecution actions, I have heard no concrete charges. Suddenly, however, twelve years after the events, they decided to summon me to the prosecutor’s office as a suspect,” wrote Andruszkiewicz.

Why the Investigation Drags On

According to TVN24 reports, the case was handled by the Bialystok District Prosecutor’s Office under Elżbieta Pieniążek, appointed by Zbigniew Ziobro. The prosecutor demanded “very urgent” transfer of all case files to the National Prosecutor’s Office. The documents returned to the investigators one month after the local elections, following which Andruszkiewicz became Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs. Subsequently, the National Prosecutor’s Office initiated disciplinary proceedings for “excessively slow investigation,” leading to the case being transferred to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin in 2019.
