Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki has expressed the country’s readiness to host the 2036 Olympic Games during a meeting with IOC President Kristy Coventry in Milan.
Poland Bids for 2036 Olympics
On Saturday, February 7, Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki visited the Olympic village in Milan and met with Polish representatives. During his conversation with IOC President Kristy Coventry, Nawrocki expressed Poland’s readiness to host the Olympic Games in 2036.
This position aligns with both the Polish President’s stance and the government’s official stance. Nawrocki emphasized Poland’s status as the world’s 20th largest economy and a regional leader, noting that hosting the Olympics would be a significant achievement.
Coventry’s Positive Response
When asked about Coventry’s reaction, Nawrocki reported that the IOC President expressed recognition for Poland’s economic successes and development. The proposal was received with openness, though Nawrocki clarified that declarations aren’t typically made in this manner.
Nawrocki mentioned that the discussion spans multiple Olympic cycles, including 2036, 2040, and 2044. He highlighted Poland’s experience in organizing major sporting events, such as Euro 2012, World Cup, and European Championships in various disciplines.
Political Meetings During Italy Visit
President Nawrocki was in Italy for the opening of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan, which took place on Friday, February 6 at the San Siro stadium. Over 50 heads of state and government attended the event.
Nawrocki used his visit for political discussions, meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Their talks covered bilateral relations, military cooperation, security matters, and Poland’s participation in G20 activities.
