Polish President Karol Nawrocki told BBC he doesn’t trust Vladimir Putin and believes only Donald Trump can prevent further aggression from Russia.
BBC Interview on Putin and Trump
During his visit to the United Kingdom, Polish President Karol Nawrocki gave an interview to BBC’s “Today” program, discussing the war in Ukraine and its conclusion. “I don’t trust Vladimir Putin at all. But we have to think about how to end Russian aggression against Ukraine. This means we must do everything to support Donald Trump in his efforts to solve this problem, because only he can make Putin stop threatening Europe,” Nawrocki stated.
He added that “perhaps everyone in Europe is aware that the United States is the guarantor of security for our part of the world,” especially when Russia threatens Poland, as well as Central and Eastern Europe. “And for that, I am grateful to Donald Trump that he understands how much Europe needs him,” the Polish president emphasized.
Russian Drones over Poland
A BBC journalist asked Nawrocki about the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones in September of last year. “This was testing Polish and NATO defense. I am pleased with the solidarity shown by NATO, as it showed that we are a strong alliance. Poland has been in a hybrid war with Russia since 2021. Attacks, pressure on the Polish border, drones, disinformation, Russian intelligence activities – all this shows that times are dangerous,” Nawrocki argued.
When asked about his critical stance towards the European Union, the Polish president stated that “our country joined the EU to have more freedom, not restrictions.” “The Union was created on different foundations, and today it is going in a completely different direction,” he said in the interview.
Nawrocki-Starmer Meeting
Security in Europe, cooperation in the defense industry, and Poland’s presence in the G20 group. On Tuesday, January 13, President Karol Nawrocki discussed these issues with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his first visit to the United Kingdom. After the meeting at Downing Street, the president reminded that over 100 British soldiers are stationed in Poland, and Great Britain showed solidarity after the Russian drone strike on Poland’s eastern border.
Meanwhile, cooperation between defense companies from both countries builds Poland’s defensive potential. The conversation between President Nawrocki and the Prime Minister also concerned economic relations and access for Polish food producers to the British market.
