Nawrocki Orders Removal of the Round Table from the Palace; Tusk Suggests Where It Should Go

President Karol Nawrocki ordered the dismantling of the historic Round Table in the Presidential Palace, and former Prime Minister Donald Tusk said it should be sent to the Polish History Museum.

Tusk on Removing the Round Table: Historical Irony

President Karol Nawrocki directed the dismantling of the Round Table, a furniture piece where 1989 reforms were negotiated. Donald Tusk called the decision an “irony of history” and recalled his earlier opposition to the Round Table while a young Solidarity activist. He noted that the Kaczyński brothers helped draft the agreement and that now Nawrocki is dismantling the very symbol they built.

“Political Murder Frenzy” in PiS

Tusk suggested the Round Table might better belong to PiS, where he claims a “political murder frenzy” is ongoing. He noted that the party has staged conflicting Christmas celebrations, one organized by the party and another by Mateusz Morawiecki, and that TVN24 reported a “bad for Poland” label attached to the former prime minister’s event.

Accusation of “Constitutional Overthrow” by the President’s Men

Tusk urged journalists not to focus on a dispute with Nawrocki, saying he has been trying to mitigate any power abuse since the beginning. He warned that the presidency should not be allowed to “violate the constitution” for any ambition or spite, and that the government must not intervene in any attempts to change state structure by force or deceit.

In the Palace “Post‑Communism Has Jumped”

Karol Nawrocki stated that the Round Table does not belong in the Presidential Palace and that, starting in 2027, it will be displayed at the Polish History Museum. He emphasized that free, sovereign Poland can no longer be idealized by the Round Table, saying that post‑communism in Poland has ended and the country deserves to thrive.
