Polish President Nawrocki discusses security guarantees and Poland’s potential role in Trump’s Peace Council following Davos meeting.
Trump-Nawrocki Conversation
On Wednesday, January 21, Karol Nawrocki met with Donald Trump in Davos. Later, the president told TV Republika that the conversation focused “primarily on security issues,” discussing security guarantees for Poland and American presence. “We also talked about the economic situation, G20, and our future plans. We also spoke about the Peace Council,” said Nawrocki.
Poland in the Peace Council?
Politicians stated that Poland’s participation in the Peace Council “is necessary.” Nawrocki expressed support for Trump on this matter. “But for us to sign such an agreement on participation, it must go through the entire constitutional procedure,” the president informed. Trump reportedly reacted to this news with understanding. “Donald Trump recognizes that an invitation for the President of Poland to join the Peace Council for resolving world conflicts, including in the Middle East, is proof of serious treatment of Poland. President Trump treats Poland as a regional power with high GDP allocated for military actions,” stated Nawrocki.
Donald Tusk: We Won’t Be Played
On Monday, Donald Tusk wrote about the conditions for Poland’s accession to the international organization. The head of government emphasized it requires approval of the Council of Ministers and ratification by the Sejm. “The government will be guided solely by the interest and security of the Polish state. And we won’t let anyone play us,” the prime minister informed. A voice in the matter was also taken by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maciej Wewiór. “Yesterday at 4:56 PM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the President’s Chancellery a response regarding the invitation for President Karol Nawrocki to join the Peace Council. According to the law on international agreements, signing requires approval of the Council of Ministers in the form of a resolution. Government spokesman Adam Szłapka also spoke about this. We remain at the disposal of the president,” wrote Maciej Wewiór on Wednesday, January 21.
