Nawrocki: Too Many Questions, Too Few Answers

National Security Council Chairman Karol Nawrocki raised concerns Wednesday over three key security issues, citing insufficient transparency.

SAFE Program Demands Scrutiny

Nawrocki emphasized the need for a thorough evaluation of the SAFE program, arguing it requires transparent cost assessments and robust oversight. He stressed that security cannot rely on shortcuts or improvisation and warned against both excessive enthusiasm and hasty rejection.

The government previously announced Poland would receive nearly 200 billion złotys under SAFE, with 80% allocated to Polish firms, as long-term repaid credits.

Poland’s Stance on Peace Council Unclear

Regarding Poland’s invitation to the US-led Peace Council, Nawrocki stated the issue remains open and urgent, with an inaugural meeting scheduled for February 19th in Washington. He noted the government has not provided him with a definitive position.

Council members are reportedly appointed by Donald Trump for three-year terms, with a voluntary $1 billion contribution. Nawrocki highlighted the need for inter-institutional cooperation on this matter.

Scrutiny of Sejm Marshal’s Eastern Contacts

The third issue focused on Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty’s alleged social and business contacts with eastern entities. Nawrocki underscored the importance of state security standards, given the marshal’s position as second-in-line to the presidency.

Nawrocki revealed Czarzasty lacks a valid security clearance certificate, unlike himself, and demanded the matter be resolved by relevant services with a public conclusion, while respecting state secrets.
