Nearly 200,000 Illegal Cigarettes and Untaxed Alcohol Seized, Two Men Arrested

Police in Białobrzegów arrested two men for dealing in untaxed goods, seizing nearly 200,000 cigarettes and 28.5 liters of alcohol.

Arrest and Seizure

Police from Białobrzegów arrested two men suspected of trading in untaxed goods. In total, 197,500 cigarettes without Polish tax stamps and 28.5 liters of alcohol were seized. The state’s losses from unpaid excise tax were preliminarily estimated at nearly 280,000 zlotys.

Investigation Details

On February 5, officers from the Criminal Department of the Białobrzegów District Police Headquarters arrested two men – a 49-year-old from Radom County and a 62-year-old from Białobrzeski County – suspected of possessing and trading in goods without required excise tax stamps.

During the intervention, 3,200 packs of cigarettes were found on the 49-year-old from Radom County, and on the 62-year-old from Białobrzeski County – 1,085 packs of cigarettes and alcohol without Polish tax bands. Then, police conducted searches at the residences of both men, where an additional 5,590 packs of illegal cigarettes were seized.

In total, from all locations, 197,500 cigarettes and 28.5 liters of alcohol were discovered and seized. Preliminary calculations indicate that the loss of excise tax revenue amounts to 279,634 zlotys.

Legal Consequences

Both men were arrested and will answer for a tax offense for which they face fines and imprisonment. Further proceedings in the case are supervised by the prosecutor’s office.

Posession, trade, and dealing in excisable goods without required tax stamps is illegal and carries strict legal consequences.
