Police in Warsaw’s Białołęka district are still negotiating with a 36‑year‑old Ukrainian man who has taken a 9‑year‑old boy hostage and is threatening the child.

On Sunday, 21 December 2025, authorities began searching for a man suspected of abducting a 9‑year‑old from the apartment where he lived with the child’s mother in Warsaw, despite her objections.

Police Negotiations in Białołęka

The suspect, a 36‑year‑old Ukrainian citizen, reached the Białołęka district and barricaded himself with the child near the intersection of Trakt Nadwiślański and Obrazkowa. Negotiations are ongoing by police negotiators, but the current stage and demands remain undisclosed.

Security Measures and Interventions

The area has been cordoned, with the Independent Counter‑terrorism Division of the Police and numerous patrols present. Traffic on nearby streets is closed, and road‑traffic officers direct vehicles and secure access. A city transport communications unit provided passengers with images of the suspect.

Threats and Alleged Weapon

Reports indicate the suspect threatens to harm the child if police enter and is believed to be armed with a sharp tool, most likely a knife. The priority for services is the safe completion of the intervention and securing the child.
