Beata Wicha has formally requested that the Pulawy City Council honor the late MP Łukasz Litewka by naming a street, square, or plaza after him to commemorate his humanitarian legacy.
A Call to Honor Humanitarianism
Foundation representatives and New Left activist Beata Wicha, an assistant to MP Jacek Czerniak, have submitted a proposal to the Pulawy City Council. The initiative seeks to name a local street, square, or plaza after the late MP Łukasz Litewka.
The author of the proposal notes that Litewka dedicated his life to helping those in need and advocating for animal welfare. The move aims to ensure the city remembers his dedication to service and his belief that assistance knows no political boundaries.
Institutional Review and Initial Skepticism
The proposal will now be reviewed by the municipal promotion committee. City officials confirmed that the suggestion will be added to the municipal name bank, with local councilors ultimately deciding whether it will be implemented.
Mariusz Wicik, Chairman of the Pulawy City Council, stated that while he will forward the request to the appropriate committee, he personally believes there are other figures more deserving of such recognition who have been waiting for longer.
Legacy of the Late MP
Born in 1989, Łukasz Litewka was a sociologist and local government official in Sosnowiec before his election to the Sejm in 2023. He gained national prominence for his charitable activities, particularly through the Team Litewka foundation and his “Zwierzogranie” campaign, which focused on animal welfare.
Litewka died on April 23 after being struck by a car while cycling in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The 57-year-old driver has been charged with causing a fatal traffic accident; the court recently rejected the prosecutor’s motion for the suspect’s arrest, allowing him to remain free after posting bail.
