New Poland 2050 Leader Pushes for Deputy Prime Minister Position: “It’s Time to Act”

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, new head of Poland 2050, reaffirms party’s demand for deputy prime minister seat in coalition government.

Coalition Agreement Must Be Honored

Poland 2050, as a coalition member, expects implementation of previous arrangements regarding the deputy prime minister’s seat. The new faction head addressed the issue during a press briefing, stating it’s time to be clear about the matter.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz emphasized she has multiple mandates in this matter, with decisions made by both the party club and National Council. She noted she received the highest mandate in the first round and won the second round for leadership of Poland 2050.

The minister stated that while Poland 2050 is willing to be in the coalition for important matters, agreements must be kept – which she said is the essence of good politics. She referenced an oral agreement repeatedly confirmed by various politicians that each coalition party should have a deputy prime minister.

Is the Position “Agreed Upon”?

According to Gazeta.pl journalist Marta Rawicz’s November report, the deputy prime minister position isn’t formally in the coalition agreement, but Poland 2050 strongly wants Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz to become one of the deputy prime ministers.

A close collaborator of Szymon Hołowni claimed at the time that the issue would be resolved by the end of November and that Pełczyńska-Nałęcz would become deputy prime minister, saying “it’s already been agreed.” However, reports from the Civic Coalition suggested Donald Tusk might not approve this promotion.

New Leadership Elected

On January 31, Poland 2050 elected its party chairman for the next term. The voting system functioned properly this time, with Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz becoming the new head of the faction after receiving 350 votes in the second round, compared to Paulina Hennig-Kloska’s 309.

The newly elected leader announced she would propose a meeting with the ruling coalition’s leaders. In a social media post, she stated Poland 2050 is a responsible part of the coalition and will remain faithful to its values and commitments to voters.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz outlined her party’s goals, including working on a fair tax system, an innovative economy, and development focused not only on metropolitan areas but also on local Poland.
