New Road Signs Now in Effect: Changes Since February 19, 2026

Poland implements updated road signs effective February 19, 2026, under a government regulation published February 4, clarifying signage for vehicles, highways, and exits.

Updated Fuel and Charging Station Signs

Sign D-23b now denotes “fuel station with electric or hybrid vehicle charging point.” Additional fuel type notations—”LPG,” “CNG,” “LNG,” or “hydrogen (H2)”—may be included in the lower section. Sign D-23c is renamed “electric or hybrid vehicle charging point,” responding to Poland’s over 6,000 public charging points by late 2025.

New Multi-Lane and Wrong Direction Signs

Sign F-23 designates a “center multi-lane lane” for built-up areas, indicating sections for left turns or road access, with overtaking prohibited. Sign F-24 (“Wrong Direction”), featuring a hand symbol, is now formally regulated for expressways and highways to prevent head-on collisions, among the most dangerous high-speed incidents.

Revised Junction and Exit Signage

Sign E-20 is officially defined as “junction sign,” indicating exit approaches; the right number shows distance to the deceleration lane start, while the left number denotes the junction number on highways. Sign E-20a now means “junction number on highway or expressway,” aiding rescue services and road management.

Enhanced Road Information Signs

Sign E-1c (“pre-interchange sign on expressway”) is introduced, equivalent to E-1a on highways. Sign E-2d now covers both highways and expressways, with updated graphics for consistency at junctions. Sign E-3 on highway/expressway exits must now be paired with E-20a, with variants for highway-to-expressway or expressway-to-voivodeship-road exits.

Clarification for Roundabout Signs

Sign A-8 (“roundabout intersection”) must be used before roundabouts marked by C-12, excluding visible urban intersections or those preceded by E-1 signs. Trams are exempt from circling roundabouts. Existing signage remains valid for up to 10 years during gradual replacement by road authorities like GDDKiA.
