New Stegny Center Nears Completion: Contract Signed for Design

Warsaw Metropolitan Sports Center has signed an 11‑million‑zloty contract to develop project documentation for the new Stegny Center, a modern speed‑skating facility serving athletes and residents.

Contract Details

The agreement, signed by the Warsaw Metropolitan Centre for Sports, involves a consortium of P2PA Ltd. from Wrocław and Metropolis Ltd. from Szczecin, chosen for their winning architectural concept in July 2024. The contract value is 11 million zloty.

Project Vision

Stegny, historically linked with speed skating, will receive a contemporary venue that meets the needs of both professional competitors and local citizens. The facility aims to integrate seamlessly into Warsaw’s urban landscape while remaining open year‑round for recreation.

First Phase Scope

Phase I will produce full design documentation for a hall featuring a speed‑skating track with a 4,500‑seat capacity and two inner ice rinks. Additional elements include a training complex, administrative and locker rooms, internal circulation from Pory and Leśnej Jeżyny streets, a parking lot for at least 350 cars, and an 800‑meter roller‑skating track around the building.

Design and Sustainability Features

The design incorporates eco‑friendly solutions such as preserving existing trees, installing a small rain‑water retention system, mounting photovoltaic panels on the roof, and employing passive, energy‑saving technologies. These measures aim to minimise environmental impact and showcase sustainable development.

International Standards and Community Use

The new center will comply with International Skating Union (ISU) and Polish Speed Skating Association standards, enabling international training and competitions. It will simultaneously serve the public, offering active leisure opportunities throughout the year.
