The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the incident but initially withheld details regarding injuries. Preliminary reports indicate the pilot and co-pilot sustained serious injuries.

Two other individuals suffered broken limbs, but their conditions are reported as stable.

According to NBC News, the aircraft was completing its landing and traveling at approximately 50 km/h when the collision occurred.

Social media footage depicts the passenger jet on the runway with a raised cockpit and damaged front fuselage.

Air Traffic Control Communication

Air traffic control recordings reveal permission granted for a service vehicle to cross the runway, followed by an immediate order to stop, and then notification of the collision. A controller is heard saying, “JAZZ 646, I see you’ve had a collision with a vehicle. Hold your position. I know you can’t move. Vehicles are responding to your signal.”

Airport Closure and Weather Conditions

LaGuardia Airport had previously issued warnings about flight disruptions due to weather conditions, including light rain and fog.

Investigation Underway

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. Some airport operations and flights remain suspended.
