New ZUS Earnings Thresholds for Retirees and Pensioners Effective June 1

Starting June 1, 2026, the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has updated its monthly earnings thresholds, which determine whether early retirement and disability benefits are reduced or suspended through August 2026.

Revised Earnings Thresholds

The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has issued a new announcement regarding earnings limits for pensioners and disability recipients, effective from June 1, 2026, to August 31, 2026. These changes are based on the average monthly salary for the first quarter of 2026, which was confirmed at 9,562.88 PLN.

Impact of Exceeding Income Limits

For those receiving early retirement or disability benefits, the law mandates specific income caps. If a recipient’s monthly gross income exceeds 6,694.10 PLN, their benefit payment may be reduced. If earnings surpass 12,431.80 PLN, the Social Insurance Institution reserves the right to suspend the pension or disability payment entirely for that month.

Reporting Obligations and Exemptions

These limits specifically apply to individuals who have not yet reached the statutory retirement age. Once a retiree reaches the official retirement age—60 for women and 65 for men—they may earn unlimited additional income without impacting their benefits. However, those subject to the limits must report their employment and anticipated earnings to ZUS using the EROP form, as failing to do so may result in the recovery of overpaid benefits for up to three years.

The new earnings threshold of 6,694.10 PLN gross remains in effect until August 31, 2026. While most pensioners are exempt once they reach retirement age, those receiving a minimum pension may still see their supplementary payments removed if their outside earnings exceed the defined minimum threshold.
