A massive fire erupted at a furniture factory in Dzierżenin early Wednesday, requiring 25 fire crews to battle the blaze.
Fire Breaks Out
On Wednesday, February 18th, at 4:37 AM, a fire broke out at a furniture production facility located in Dzierżenin (Pokrzywnica commune, Pułtusk county), directly adjacent to national road no. 61. The fire engulfed a section of container workshops and rapidly spread to an adjacent building.
Initial Response
The initial report was imprecise, and the incident site was located on the border of two counties. Consequently, crews were dispatched from both Pułtusk and Legionowo counties. The first responders included crews from Pułtusk, Legionowo, and Nasielsk fire stations.
Evacuation and Safety
Several containers used for furniture production were engulfed by flames, with three containers directly adjacent to a social-office building whose ground floor served as a production area. Flames quickly penetrated the building. Firefighters attempted to locate and extinguish the fire internally, but efforts proved ineffective. Due to the wooden roof and roof truss construction, the fire spread rapidly along structural elements, creating a significant risk of collapse. Firefighters were withdrawn from inside, and firefighting continued exclusively from the exterior. One employee present in the building complained of symptoms related to smoke inhalation and was examined by medics but did not require hospitalization.
Damage Assessment
After locating the fire, firefighters began dismantling the roof and extinguishing remaining hotspots, utilizing two aerial ladder platforms. The operation also involved a vehicle for filling air cylinders and a water tanker. Approximately 600 m² of structures and the majority of production machinery were destroyed in the fire. The building inspectorate has been notified to assess whether the structure is fit for further use.
Traffic Impact
During the peak of the operation, 25 fire brigade crews, totaling approximately 75 firefighters, were involved. The entire operation lasted around 9 hours. Traffic on national road no. 61 was diverted in a single lane during the firefighting efforts.
