A chain reaction of nine vehicles crashed on Warsaw’s S2 highway near the Konotopa junction, injuring four children and blocking traffic toward the A2 and S8 routes.
Incident Overview
A massive collision involving nine vehicles occurred on the S2 route at the Konotopa interchange in Warsaw’s western county. The crash has completely blocked the road segment heading toward the A2 motorway and the S8 expressway.
Initial Collision on S8
The first impact took place on the S8 expressway at the same junction, creating a jam that spread to the S2 connections. The resulting bottleneck set the stage for a cascading series of accidents.
Chain Reaction on S2
Under severe braking conditions on the S2, vehicles exiting toward the A2 and S8 routes collided repeatedly. The successive impacts involved nine cars in total.
Impact on Passengers
The twelve‑vehicle incident involved 25 passengers in total. Four children were injured and are currently under medical care. All casualties were transported by emergency teams to nearby hospitals.
Response and Investigation
Multiple fire‑rescue squads secured the scene, cut power to damaged vehicles, removed fluids and bodywork from the road, and conducted search and rescue operations. Police are conducting a detailed investigation to determine whether drivers maintained proper speed and following distance within the jam, and whether any were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
