Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister stated Donald Trump could deserve the Nobel Peace Prize if he secures a peace deal between Israel and Palestine, while the Sejm Marshal refused to support the nomination.
Conditions for a Nobel Prize
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski stated on Monday, February 2, that Donald Trump could count on the Nobel Peace Prize if he were to bring about a peaceful agreement between Palestine and Israel. “Even a partial peace, which occurred between Israel and the Palestinian Authority during the times of Rabin and Arafat, earned both gentlemen Nobel Peace Prizes,” recalled the PSL politician.
Bartoszewski assessed that this conflict, “practically unsolvable for 100 years,” “definitely deserves to have someone distinguished for it.” “But that would have to happen first,” emphasized the Deputy Foreign Minister on Polsat News. As reported in Gazeta.pl, Radosław Sikorski expressed a similar opinion: “If President Trump brings about a just peace for Ukraine, I will also sign such a nomination, because I have the right to do so,” declared the Deputy Prime Minister.
Speaker Czarzasty Refuses Support
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson and Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Amir Ohana requested support in efforts to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump. As established by Marta Rawicz in Gazeta.pl, Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty was to first consult with leaders of other parliaments, including the Bundestag in Germany and the National Assembly in France. The politician provided an answer on this matter on Monday, February 2.
“I will not support the nomination for a Nobel for President Trump, because he does not deserve it,” said Czarzasty during a press conference.
Trump Informally Receives an Award
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the Venezuelan people and for her struggle for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.” Donald Trump, however, expressed disapproval on this issue.
Trump is involved in many international conflicts, one of which was the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro. In this context, Machado gave her award to Trump on Thursday, January 15. The Norwegian Nobel Committee informed, however, that “after the Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be withdrawn, shared, or transferred to another. The decision is final and binding forever.”
