Norwegian Man’s Body Found 200km Downriver After Warsaw Disappearance

The body of 23-year-old Norwegian citizen Olivier E. was discovered in Ciechocinek, Poland, after going missing in Warsaw last November.

Investigation Launched into Unintentional Death

The Aleksandrow Kujawski District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the death of Olivier E., a 23-year-old Norwegian citizen. His body was found on March 13, 2026, in the Vistula River near the marina in Ciechocinek.

DNA analysis strongly suggests the body is that of the man who disappeared in Warsaw on November 22, 2025. The investigation is being conducted under Article 155 of the Penal Code, concerning unintentional manslaughter.

DNA Confirmation and International Cooperation

Following the discovery of the body, the International Cooperation Bureau of the National Police Headquarters was notified. They provided a DNA profile obtained from the missing man’s mother to authorities in Aleksandrow Kujawski.

The investigation has been fully assigned to the Ciechocinek Police Station.

Autopsy Results and Toxicology Reports

An autopsy conducted on March 17, 2026, revealed no injuries that could have directly caused death. Preliminary findings indicate Olivier E. drowned.

The Institute of Forensic Genetics in Bydgoszcz was commissioned to perform comparative DNA analysis and tests for alcohol and psychoactive substances. The expert report, received on March 24, 2026, indicated a high probability that the deceased was the missing 23-year-old.

Circumstances of Disappearance

Olivier E. was in Warsaw with friends and was last seen around 2:30 AM in the vicinity of the SEN club on Wioślarska Street, near the Vistula boulevards and Poniatowski Bridge. His disappearance was reported by social media and Norwegian press.

River Distance and Body’s Journey

Based on the Vistula River’s length, Ciechocinek is located at the 710.2 km mark, while the Poniatowski Bridge area in Warsaw is around 511 km. This means the body traveled approximately 200 kilometers downstream.

“The Aleksandrow Kujawski District Prosecutor’s Office is supervising the proceedings concerning the unintentional death of Olivier E. on an undetermined date, no earlier than November 22, 2025, whose body was found in the Vistula River on March 13, 2026, near the marina in Ciechocinek. It was established that the Police are searching for a man with such data, who disappeared on November 22, 2025, in Warsaw. The International Cooperation Bureau of the National Police Headquarters in Warsaw was immediately notified. The aforementioned Bureau of the KGP sent to the KPP in Aleksandrow Kuj. a DNA profile taken from the mother of the missing Norwegian citizen Olivier E., for comparative testing. After the initiation of the investigation into the act under Art. 155 of the Penal Code in this case, the conduct of which was fully entrusted to the Ciechocinek Police Station, provisions of March 17, 2026, appointed an expert to perform an internal examination of the body and the Institute of Forensic Genetics in Bydgoszcz, to examine the deceased’s blood for possible alcohol and psychoactive substances and comparative DNA testing. On March 17, 2026, an autopsy was performed, which initially showed no injuries to the body that could have caused death. It was established that it was drowning; DNA samples were also taken. On March 24, 2026, the expert opinion of the Institute of Forensic Genetics in Bydgoszcz was received, which indicates that the deceased is with a high degree of probability the missing in Warsaw on November 22, 2025, Olivier E. The proceedings are ongoing” – informs Prosecutor Małgorzata Kręcicka – Spokesperson of the District Prosecutor’s Office.
