Two nurses in Łódź, Poland, were found to have blood alcohol levels exceeding 2.5 per mille while on duty at a cardiology ward on Holy Saturday.
Incident Reported Due to Loud Behavior
The incident occurred on Holy Saturday, April 4th. A witness reported the nurses’ loud behavior to police, suspecting they were under the influence of alcohol.
Upon arrival, police confirmed the suspicion, detaining the two women, aged 51 and 53. Breathalyzer tests revealed alcohol levels of 2.1 per mille in the younger nurse and 2.5 per mille in the older.
Detention and Investigation
The nurses were taken into custody and held until sober. Further investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Łódź Górna District Prosecutor’s Office.
Hospital Response and Disciplinary Action
Hospital officials expressed outrage over the incident, stating they cannot continue working with the nurses. Both nurses have been suspended pending an internal investigation.
The hospital spokesperson emphasized that the nurses violated professional ethics, endangering patients and damaging the reputation of the hospital and the profession.
Criminal Charges Filed
The nurses face charges of endangering patients’ lives or causing serious health harm, an offense punishable by up to five years in prison, according to Paweł Jasiak, a spokesperson for the Łódź District Prosecutor’s Office.
