Poland’s nursing allowance supports diabetics unable to live independently, offering fixed monthly payments regardless of family income.
Eligibility for the Allowance
The allowance is granted under the Act on Family Benefits to provide financial support for individuals requiring third-party care. It is paid irrespective of family income.
Eligibility requires a diabetes diagnosis (Type 1 or 2) combined with a disability assessment confirming inability to live independently. The diagnosis alone does not guarantee the allowance; commissions evaluate disease impact on daily life.
When Diabetics Qualify
For adults, diabetic complications typically form the basis for approval. These include retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, and foot ulcers, among others, demonstrating significant functional limitations.
How to Obtain the Allowance
Applicants must undergo a two-stage process: first, submit medical documentation proving disability, then await a commission’s decision on the extent of care requirements.
Allowance Amount for 2026
The monthly allowance remains fixed at 215.84 zł in 2026. No increase is planned for this year; potential adjustments may occur earliest in 2027 or 2028.
Exceptions to Denial
The allowance will not be granted if the applicant does not meet the disability criteria defined by the commission, regardless of the diabetes diagnosis.
