Old “Florange” Building in Prague Receives 32‑Million‑PLN Renovation

City funds restoration of historic soap and perfume factory at 34 Stalowa Street, Prague North, to create 35 community apartments and 2 commercial units, finishing December 2027.

Investment Scope

The historic complex at 34 Stalowa Street will be connected to the municipal heating network and equipped with new intercom, electrical, and low‑current systems. Four stairwells will each receive a lift. A restored façade and courtyard, including a chapel, will be revitalised. The development will comprise 11 one‑bedroom, 18 two‑bedroom, and 6 three‑bedroom units over more than 2 000 m² of usable space, alongside two service‑commercial premises.

Schedule and Financing

The contract with the contractor was signed at the beginning of November. The city aims to complete the works by the end of 2027. Project costs are reported at over 32 million PLN, according to municipal media and local news outlets.

Significance for Prague and Revitalisation Program

The Stalowa 34 refurbishment is part of a broader programme to modernise buildings that have been out of use in Prague North. The city is preparing and executing several dozen addresses, with a total programme budget exceeding 830 million PLN. The goal is to create roughly 1 300 residential units within the renewed complex.

History of the Place

The frontage house and three offices at Stalowa 34 were built around 1895. Between the wars, the “Florange” factory operated in one office, producing soap, perfume, cosmetics, and laundry powders. The enterprise, run by Fiszel Bankier and Majer‑Abbe Wassermann, failed in 1930; two years later, the city leased the site to Public School No. 44. During the war, a chapel was constructed on the courtyard. In 2009, the complex was listed in the heritage register.

Address and Conservation Status

The property is located at 34 Stalowa Street, Prague North, and is protected as a heritage site following its 2009 registration.
