Polish Ombudsman for Citizens’ Rights, Prof. Marcin Wiącek, continues pressing Education Minister Barbara Nowacka for responses to concerns about school religious education reforms.
Education Ministry Preoccupied With Reform Campaign
Barbara Nowacka, head of the education ministry, and her deputies are so absorbed in nationwide meetings with teachers about the “Compass of tomorrow” reform starting in September 2026 that they have no time for other tasks.
The extensive campaign is affecting not only educational trade unions but also the Ombudsman for Children’s Rights and the Ombudsman for Citizens’ Rights, whose proposals and comments are consistently ignored by the Ministry of National Education.
RPO’s Unanswered Inquiries
From the latest statement by Stanisław Trociuk, deputy of the Ombudsman for Citizens’ Rights, to Barbara Nowacka, it appears that despite two letters regarding changes to religious education in schools, no response has been given to the emerging doubts.
Third Letter Sent Amid Continued Silence
As a result, the RPO sent another, third letter at the end of February 2026, again requesting a response to concerns and objections regarding changes to the mentioned subject.
Interestingly, the first appeal on this matter took place on June 5, 2025, and the second on October 10, 2025. In the February 2026 letter, the RPO reminded the head of the MEN that it is her duty to cooperate actively with him.
