ONE SENTENCE: HOW SIKORSKI RESPONDED TO PUTIN’S PEACE COUNCIL INVITATION

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski commented on Vladimir Putin’s invitation to a new peace council with a single sentence: “My reset is better than yours”.

Sikorski Reacts to Putin’s Invitation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski commented on social media about Vladimir Putin’s invitation to the Peace Council initiated by Donald Trump’s administration. On the X platform, he posted a brief message. “My reset is better than yours,” wrote the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and shared information about the invitation for the President of Russia. Sikorski’s post included a photo of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin shaking hands. The post is likely also a response to the rhetoric of Law and Justice. The opposition reminds him of the previous Platforma Obywatelska government’s period and the so-called reset policy in relations with Russia.

Trump Invites Putin to Peace Council

The Kremlin confirmed that Vladimir Putin received an invitation to co-create the Peace Council. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, informed that the proposal is currently being analyzed. The new Council, which is to be chaired by Donald Trump, is intended to oversee the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. According to the Financial Times, however, US officials are considering expanding its role to other conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and the situation in Venezuela.

Alternative to the UN?

Some commentators view the Council as an alternative to the UN – an informal body that is to influence conflict resolution also outside the Middle East. Donald Trump apparently considers the UN to be an incompetent and discredited organization. The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, also received an invitation to the Council, which was confirmed by Minister Marcin Przydacz. The Presidential Palace has not yet made a decision on possible participation. France, however, refused to participate, against which Trump threatened with 200% tariffs.
