One Step from Another Tragedy on Warsaw’s Krakowskie Przedmieście

Witness finds second woman in extreme hypothermia on Krakowskie Przedmieście after discovering frozen body there yesterday.

Second Hypothermia Case on Same Warsaw Street

A witness who discovered a woman’s body from hypothermia on Krakowskie Przedmieście yesterday morning found another woman in extreme condition in snow at the same location today. While help arrived in time this time, the strong frost in Warsaw continues to pose a real threat to homeless people.

Saturday Intervention on Krakowskie Przedmieście

On Saturday morning, January 31, another intervention took place on Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw that could have ended in tragedy. Thanks to the quick reaction of a witness, a woman in extreme hypothermia received medical assistance.

Discovery Details

According to a reader’s account, the day before (January 30), the witness found a woman’s body on Krakowskie Przedmieście who died from hypothermia. This morning, he made a similar discovery in the courtyard of a building at Krakowskie Przedmieście 6. In the bushes, in the snow, he found an unconscious woman showing clear signs of hypothermia and under the influence of alcohol. This person was also in a homelessness crisis and narrowly avoided sharing the fate of the woman found dead the day before. The witness called city authorities and emergency services, and the woman was transported to the hospital.

Weather Risks for Homeless

Current weather conditions in Warsaw pose a serious threat to people staying outside, especially at night and in the morning when the body loses heat fastest. Hypothermia can progress unnoticed, particularly when someone is lying in snow or wet clothing. Alcohol presents an additional risk factor, creating a false sense of warmth while simultaneously weakening reactions and making it difficult to seek help. In such situations, time is crucial, and quick notification of services can be the only chance to break the chain of events leading to tragedy.

National Hypothermia Statistics

According to the Governmental Security Center, yesterday 2 people died from hypothermia: one in Warsaw (Masovian Voivodeship) and one in Dębogóra (Pomeranian Voivodeship). Since November 1, a total of 36 people have died from hypothermia in Poland.
