Orban Dismisses Ukraine Aid as “Madness,” Warns EU Faces Financial Scandal

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called money poured into Ukraine “mad” and alleged it would wreck the EU, issuing the remarks in Budapest on Monday.

Orban Rejects Ukraine Assistance as “Mad”

Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the European Union’s financial aid to Ukraine is “destroying” the EU economically and financially and is “simply mad.” He cited the €185 billion already spent and said more would be allocated. Orban accused EU leaders of “deliberately prolonging the conflict in Ukraine to secure a better negotiating position for a peace deal,” characterizing that stance as “completely wrong.”

Orban’s View on the War and Europe’s Future

Orban stated he does not care whether Russia wins or loses the war. “I care about the future of European peoples, including Hungarians, and a new security system,” he said. He urged Europe to resolve the conflict based on European interests, proposing a peace agreement that would stabilize borders regardless of international recognition and create a de‑militarized zone. Orban warned that if no miracle occurs, Russia will continue occupying eastern Ukraine, including Donetsk, after the conflict ends, and said Russia will not attack the EU or NATO because “we are much stronger.”
