Ostrołęka Prosecutor Investigates Severe Dog Abuse on Local Farm

Ostrołęka prosecutors are investigating claims that a mixed‑breed dog, starved, dirty, and untreated, was violently abused on a farm in Troszyn County, starting 17 November 2025.

Case Background

On 17 November 2025, the Ostrołęka District Prosecutor’s Office opened a case over claims of animal cruelty against a mixed‑breed dog of German shepherd type kept in extreme neglect on a farm in Troszyn, Troszyn County. The animal was reportedly in a state of severe emaciation, confined in filth amid excrement, with no proper food or veterinary care as described by the indictment under Article 35(1) in conjunction with Article 6(2)(10) of the 1997 Animal Protection Act.

Investigation Progress

The prosecution received a notification from the Dolnośląski Animal Protection Inspectorate in Wrocław concerning the dog’s condition on the farm. The report detailed that the dog, a black mastiff, was left unconscious until 13 November 2025, suffering extreme hunger, filth, an untreated disease with a large unknown tumour, and denied age‑appropriate food. In the course of the investigation, witnesses were interviewed, the local police were asked to accept a verbal complaint of suspected crime, and documents relating to the animal’s treatment and vaccinations were obtained.

Legal Context

The case is being prosecuted as an offence of cruelty toward an animal under the Animal Protection Act, punishable by imprisonment. Full criminal liability determinations will be possible only after the completion of procedural actions and the assembly of all evidence.
