Oświęcim Murder Case: Sentence Reduced to 25 Years

The Krakow Court of Appeal has finalized the verdict for Ingebrigt G., reducing his sentence from life imprisonment to 25 years for the 2022 murder of a 26-year-old woman in Oświęcim.

Legal Proceedings and Appeal

In April 2023, the Krakow Regional Court initially sentenced Ingebrigt G. to life imprisonment for the murder and the abduction of the couple’s daughter. The court also ordered the defendant to pay 200,000 PLN each to the child and the victim’s father.

The defense appealed the ruling, seeking acquittal on the kidnapping charge and a retrial for the murder, while requesting the admission of new evidence. The prosecution, however, requested that the original sentence be upheld. On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal rejected the request for new evidence and lowered the prison sentence to 25 years.

Crime and Extradition

The victim’s body was discovered by her father on November 5, 2022, in an Oświęcim apartment. An autopsy confirmed the 26-year-old died from multiple wounds and blood loss.

Following the discovery, a Child Alert was issued for the couple’s five-year-old daughter. Ingebrigt G. was apprehended with the child on a highway in Copenhagen. A Danish court approved his extradition to Poland in December 2022, and the trial began in December 2023.
