Over 13,000 Police Checks Reveal 32 Alcohol‑Intoxicated and 2 Drug‑Influenced Drivers in Warsaw and Surroundings

On Sunday morning, Warsaw police conducted 13,102 sobriety checks, uncovering 32 drivers under the influence of alcohol and two of drugs across the city and surrounding counties.

Operation “Sober Morning” Overview

From 6:30 to 10:30, officers carried out 13,102 checks. Police identified 32 drivers under the influence of alcohol and two under the influence of drugs across Warsaw and neighboring counties.

Górczewska Street Collision

At about 1:00 a.m., a woman driving a Skoda collided with a traffic light and barriers on Górczewska Street. Breath‑alcohol test showed 2 promille.

Wilcza Street Crash

Around 4:00 a.m., a 21‑year‑old driver in a Mercedes struck a parked Toyota on Wilcza Street, which then fell onto the sidewalk and a tree. The driver’s blood alcohol level was over 1.5 promille. No pedestrians were present.

Fatal Accident on DW631

At about 8:30 a.m., an Opel and a Volkswagen collided on the Sieraków provincial road. The Volkswagen passenger died in hospital. The 29‑year‑old Volkswagen driver tested positive for 2 promille, had two active driving bans, and was wanted by warrant. He had previously been convicted of causing a traffic accident.

Additional Stops and Drug Findings

Early on the morning, a 34‑year‑old driver tried to evade a check on Dźwigowa Street; a drug test confirmed he was under intoxicating substances. His revoked licence was noted, mefedron was found in the car, and the vehicle was towed.
A 7:00 a.m. stop on Świętokrzyski Bridge revealed a driver with over 1 promille, plus drug residues.
A Honda driver on the S8 tested with nearly 0.5 promille and had his licence revoked.

Police Actions: Licences Revoked, Fines Issued

During the operation 323 people were investigated. Seven drivers had no licence. Police issued 43 fines totaling almost 10,000 złoty and forwarded 19 cases to court.

Safety Message

Policymakers urged drivers to avoid alcohol or drug consumption before driving, warning of the severe risks to all road users.
