Pakistan Surges Ahead of China in Solar Boom

Pakistan has imported a record 22 gigawatts of solar panels in the last year, more than three times China’s import growth, amidst rapid expansion of solar energy in the country.

Record Solar Energy Boom in Pakistan

Pakistan has seen a massive increase in the installation of solar panels, with over 45 gigawatts imported over the past few years. In contrast, Poland currently has only 23 gigawatts installed.

Solar Energy Growth in Pakistan

The solar energy boom is mainly driven by the low cost of solar panels. Now, nearly 85% of Pakistan’s households have access to electricity, although rural areas lag significantly behind urban centers.

Rising Energy Issues

The consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which led to skyrocketing gas prices, have contributed to higher electricity bills. However, the number of households with solar panels has significantly increased, providing a practical solution to the energy problems.
