Paris Police Foil Terror Attack Near Bank of America

French police thwarted a potential terror attack in central Paris early Saturday, arresting a suspect attempting to detonate a homemade bomb.

Attempted Bombing at Bank of America

According to AFP, the arrest occurred around 3:30 AM on Saturday, March 28th, as the suspect attempted to plant a bomb near the entrance of the Bank of America branch on rue de la Boetie in central Paris.

The device was a homemade explosive consisting of a five-liter container filled with liquid, likely fuel, and a detonator. It has been transported to a forensic laboratory for full analysis.

Suspect Recruited for €600

Le Monde reports the suspect was recruited to carry out the attack via social media in exchange for 600 euros (approximately 2,500 PLN).

The newspaper, citing police sources, states a second man accompanied the suspect and fled upon the arrival of law enforcement.

Government Commends Police Response

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez congratulated the police on their swift reaction and the prevention of the terrorist attack, emphasizing the importance of this response given the “current international situation.”

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation has been assigned to the anti-terrorism unit of the criminal brigade and the Paris judicial police. The arrested man remains in police custody.
