Empty POLREGIO Train Bursts into Flames
In the evening of Thursday 4 December, a fire broke out on an empty POLREGIO passenger train at the PKP station on Kolejowa Street, Nowy Sącz, Malopolska. The locomotive was preparing to depart for Piwniczna‑Zdrój when it suddenly caught fire.
The Railway Protection Service and train crew likely evacuated passengers, and no casualties were reported.
Firefighters Battle Blaze for Over Two Hours
Firefighters from four brigades of the JRG in Nowy Sącz fought the blaze for more than two hours. Two platforms and the entire traction network were shut down while the crews disconnected traction to safely extinguish the fire.
Fire Affects Nearly Two Passenger Cars
Investigators found that almost two passenger cars were engulfed. The interior of one car was completely burned, and the cause of the blaze remains unknown as police investigate.
