Peace Plan Spurs U.S. Alarm, Even Rubio Unaware

An unofficial report from Reuters suggests that a meeting where Donald Trump’s representatives were negotiating a peace plan with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev caused alarm within the U.S. administration and at the Capitol.

Peace Plan Spurs U.S. Alarm

According to an unofficial Reuters report, a meeting in which Trump officials were said to be drafting a peace plan with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev created unease in the U.S. administration and at the Capitol.

The story alleges that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner bypassed interagency procedures and that the discussions ended with a proposal favoring Russia, while many senior State Department and National Security Council officials were reportedly not informed.

The report also says there was no coordination, and even Secretary of State Marco Rubio was unaware of the process.

State Department Denies Claims

The department, via Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, rejected the allegations, stating that Secretary Rubio had been intimately involved in all phases of drafting the Ukraine war‑ending plan and that any insinuations to the contrary were entirely false.

Pigott added that Rubio had undertaken multiple talks with both sides of the conflict to facilitate the transition to lasting peace.

28‑Point Plan Calls for Territorial Concessions

Axios reports that the Trump administration’s 28‑point proposal, aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, includes Ukraine handing over Donbas and Crimea back to Russia, a demand made by the Kremlin.

Republican Senator Roger Wicker warned that Ukraine should not be forced to surrender its lands to one of the world’s most egregious war criminals, Vladimir Putin.

Rubio Stresses Necessity of Compromise

Rubio himself said that ending a destructive war requires realistic, mutually acceptable concessions from both parties, and that the team will continue to develop a list of feasible ideas based on inputs from both sides.
