Pedestrian Dragged 20 Metres by Tram in Warsaw, Hospitalized in Critical Condition

Pedestrian critically injured after being struck and dragged by tram in central Warsaw.

Incident Details

On Friday, March 6th, around 16:30, at the intersection of Dolna and Sobieski streets in Warsaw, a 36-year-old man was struck by tram line 19 heading towards Wilanów. The pedestrian was crossing the crosswalk on a red light. After impact, he became trapped between the tram and the concrete curb of the tracks and was dragged approximately 20 metres.

Emergency responders, including fire services, tram personnel, medical teams, and police, were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters freed the trapped pedestrian, who was unconscious and in critical condition. He received initial medical aid on-site before being transported to the hospital.

Police secured the scene, conducted measurements, took photographic documentation, and secured footage from the tram’s cameras to determine the exact sequence of events. Tram traffic was restored around 18:30.

Traffic Disruptions

Warsaw Tramways (WTP) reported significant disruptions for tram lines 14, 16, and 19 near the Dolna 02 stop due to the incident. These lines were rerouted via alternative paths.

Line 14/16 towards Miasteczko Wilanów/Stegny now follows: … – Spacerowa – Gagarina – to Sielce terminus. Line 14/16 towards Banacha/Muranowska/Piaski follows: … – Sobieskiego – Św. Bonifacego – to Stegny terminus, then loops back to Miasteczko Wilanów. Line 19 towards Stegny follows: … – Rakowiecka – Puławska to Metro Wilanowska terminus.

A replacement bus service, “Za Tramwaj,” has been activated on the route: Stegny – Św. Bonifacego – Sobieskiego – Chełmska – Czerniakowska – Gagarina – Belwederska – Spacerowa 07.
