A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening on the S17 route near Garwolin, prompting a police investigation.
Incident Location and Initial Response
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 8th, evening on the S17 route in Garwolin. Emergency services received notification of the pedestrian collision before 9:00 PM.
The location was near a road overpass on the S17 towards Warsaw, on the border of Garwolin – in the area of ul. Żołnierzy II Armii Wojska Polskiego – and Wola Rębkowskiej in the Garwolin municipality, at ul. Lipowa.
Circumstances of the Collision
Unofficial reports suggest the pedestrian may have fallen from the overpass directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle. According to these reports, the individual did not survive.
Road Closures and Traffic Disruption
Following the accident, a lane of the Garwolin bypass towards Warsaw was blocked – from the Garwolin Północ node in Sulbinach to the Garwolin Zachów node, also known as Garwolin – Avon.
The General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) indicated that the disruptions were expected to last until 12:30 AM.
Ongoing Investigation
Police and other emergency services remained at the scene for an extended period. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy and how it occurred.
