A widespread outage of the European drug verification system is causing significant delays and disruptions at pharmacies across multiple countries, including Poland.
European Drug Verification System Down
Pharmacies are experiencing paralysis due to a failure in the European drug verification system, significantly extending patient service times and, in some cases, making dispensing impossible. The system outage affects multiple countries, not just Poland.
Polish Pharmacists Report Major Disruptions
The National Chamber of Pharmacists (NIA) reported on Saturday that the pan-European failure of the system for verifying the authenticity of medicines has led to serious difficulties in pharmacies.
PLMVS System Affected
The NIA stated on X (formerly Twitter) that a Europe-wide failure is occurring in the PLMVS system, overseen by the National Organization for Verification of Medicinal Product Authenticity. The outage impacts both pharmacies and pharmaceutical wholesalers.
System Details and Impact
PLMVS is the European System for Verification of Medicinal Products Authenticity. The NIA emphasized that the system is either not functioning or is operating with substantial delays, paralyzing or significantly slowing down patient service. Pharmacists have no control over the situation, and patience is requested.
Affected Countries
The system failure is reportedly affecting Austria, France, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, the Netherlands, and Slovakia, in addition to Poland.
