Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the PiS club, questioned Łukasz Mejza regarding speeding violations and his subsequent waiver of parliamentary immunity.
Lawmaker Called to Account
Mariusz Błaszczak stated he invited MP Łukasz Mejza for a discussion, noting Mejza publicly admitted guilt, relinquished his immunity, and apologized.
Błaszczak suggested the matter may be a distraction from compromising issues concerning the ruling party, adding that Mejza promised improvement and is facing consequences.
Speeding Incident and Fine
Łukasz Mejza was recently fined 800 zł and received nine penalty points for exceeding the speed limit by approximately 30 km/h on an expressway near Zielona Góra.
Prior Speeding Violation and Immunity
In October of last year, police attempted to fine Mejza 2,500 zł and impose 15 penalty points after he was caught driving 200 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the S3 expressway.
Mejza initially invoked his parliamentary immunity to avoid the penalty, but later explained he didn’t accept the ticket due to time constraints before a flight.
Waiver of Immunity and Apology
Mejza subsequently announced he was waiving his immunity regarding the S3 speeding incident, expressing regret and promising it would not happen again.
Further Investigations
The General Inspectorate of Road Transport is seeking to hold Mejza accountable for nine speeding violations registered by speed cameras.
PiS Leadership Meeting
Jarosław Kaczyński convened a meeting of PiS authorities to discuss the party’s response to internal challenges and strategic direction.
Political Career of Łukasz Mejza
Łukasz Mejza served as a councilor in the Lubusz region in 2014, and ran for Parliament with the PSL in 2019, but was unsuccessful.
He entered Parliament in 2021 following the death of PSL MP Jolanta Fedak, initially as an unaffiliated representative.
He later joined the Republican Party and held positions as Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, and was successfully elected to the Sejm on the PiS list in 2023.
