PiS Defends Obajtek, Tusk Mocked—Former Orlen CEO Fires Back

On November 8, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński urged support for former Orlen chief Daniel Obajtek before a police hearing, prompting a sharp reply from PM Donald Tusk—answering back in a single day.

Kaczyński Calls for Obajtek’s Protection

On Saturday 8 November, PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński posted a plea for backing of Daniel Obajtek, former chief executive of the state‑owned oil company Orlen, ahead of his upcoming police interrogation.

He described Obajtek as “the most exceptional Polish manager” and accused the Tusk administration of inflicting “unprecedented damage” upon the Polish economy and undermining the nation’s energy independence.

Obajtek’s Court Appearance Set for November 12

According to Polish Press Agency reports, Obajtek is scheduled to appear before the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday 12 November.

The hearing concerns the signing of two private detective service contracts by Orlen, reportedly targeting political opponents in the former opposition.

Tusk’s Mockery of Obajtek

In a comment posted on Sunday 9 November, Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticised the “Murem za” campaign launched by PiS, arguing that the support list was growing unwieldy.

Obajtek Fires Back at Prime Minister

Shortly after Tusk’s remarks, Obajtek issued a terse response to the Prime Minister, accusing Tusk’s administration of harbouring “empty” resources and of failing to provide tangible benefits to Orlen’s shareholders.

He highlighted Orlen’s past profitability, citing 90 billion zlotys in profit over eight years and a 21 billion zloty earnings figure for 2023, contrasting it with the current decline.
