PiS Demands Kierwiński’s Resignation Over Security Services’ Conduct

Following a forced entry into the residence of Karol Nawrocki’s mother due to a false alarm on Saturday, PiS politicians launched an intervention at the Interior Ministry, calling for Marcin Kierwiński’s resignation.

Government Response to False Alarms

On Saturday, May 23, emergency services forcibly entered a Gdańsk apartment belonging to the mother of Karol Nawrocki following a false report of a fire and cardiac arrest. In response, Minister Marcin Kierwiński held an emergency meeting, followed by a briefing with Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Sunday morning.

PiS Claims of Incompetence

PiS politicians Piotr Uściński and Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom initiated a parliamentary intervention at the Interior Ministry on Monday, May 25. Uściński argued that the state is failing to protect citizens from provocations, comparing the recent incidents to the PRL era, and asserted that Minister Kierwiński is unable to maintain control over the security services.

Controversy Over Reporting Methods

Wojciechowska van Heukelom questioned why it took services several days to identify that the false reports were being sent via SMS numbers designated for deaf-mute individuals. She criticized the ministry for its slow reaction and failure to track the perpetrators responsible for the recent cascade of false emergency calls.

Ministry Defense of Emergency Protocols

Interior Ministry spokesperson Karolina Gałecka confirmed the parliamentary intervention and defended the actions of the services. She stated that responders are obligated to act on potential life-threatening reports regardless of the property owner’s identity, adding that failure to intervene could have led to fatalities for which the ministry would also be blamed.

Details of the Gdańsk Incident

Rafał Leśkiewicz, spokesperson for the President, reported that services broke down the door to the Nawrocki residence while the occupants were away. State Fire Service records confirm they responded to two reports regarding a fire and cardiac arrest, finding no victims or fire upon forced entry.

Escalating False Alerts

The ministry reported 12 similar interventions between May 10 and 15, including a false report regarding the editor-in-chief of TV Republika. Prime Minister Tusk condemned the criticism from PiS members, labeling the characterization of the fire department’s response as a “brutal attack” as cynical or foolish.
